I got in a bit of a rut not enjoying map games for a while. That has since past, and I tried out the game some more.It is very different from Thea 1! The original seemed very easy to me after a bit of playing it. I just played 3 games and hopped directly into a trap that instantly kills my whole party with reckless abandon. I haven't had this experience of learning what paths to avoid instant death since when I first started Thea 1, and I am thoroughly enjoying. After my first death, I found out that character actually have 3 health bars, which means you can die by going in over your head in other challenges. In the first, you only had to worry during a physical fight. After my second death, I found out that the difficulty of challenges is marked by a number in a circle next to the card that indicates the type of challenge. This is different than the skulls. After my third death, I learned how to maneuver the dudes on the red mound without dying. (Don't try to flirt them when you have a party of all guys?) :PI'm very excited to relearn a basically entirely new game with the same premise of a favorite one!. Orcs beating gay elves and half-demons struggling with their identity. When did it all become so tiresome? When did everything become so... bland? Apparently in 2019 the height of one's writing abilities is coming up with political diatribe that reflects the contemporary world and the writer's own political views. Maybe I'm too old, but back in the days people actually told stories and not everything was a political commentary. Of course things were political even back then, everything is and has been, but the difference is the art of subtlety, which apparently has completely disappeared. Hammering down people with your opinions and practically screaming at your readers might work if you're writing a book or a column which is a political commentary about the current world, not a good idea when it comes to writing something that isn't supposed to be one. Preaching usually isn't a good way to change anyone's mind, especially in politics. The game itself I do like, tentatively. It does suffer from couple of things though, but I'm optimistic they'll be fixed eventually. The combat is too slow so you end up using auto combat most of the time. I do like the combat and find it better over the first one's super simplistic one, but the problem is that this one takes too long. It would be helpful if you saw all of the skills your units have without having to click them, every damn time. The game is also somewhat clunky to play meaning that there seems to be a delay of sorts for things to happen. You'll be constantly setting up camp and breaking it, all the time. The crafting system itself is nice and I love how the resources work, but the crafting menus themself are a pain to navigate, which sucks since that's what you're doing all the time. The itemization has been streamlined quite a bit compared to the previous Thea. The new crafting system is nice and actually quite cool, but the fact that your people use less items makes me wonder. Though crafting really high tier gear will take ages and if you're planning to equip your entire party with highest tier items that's going to take hundreds and hundreds of turns. The pet slot is also a thing I don't really understand. What's the point of any other pet besides a horse? What's the point of classes which can't have a pet? Your entire party loses 3 movement due to them not being able to have a horse. Sure, it might sound hilarious for a snake or for a rat to have a horse as a pet, but from gameplay perspective it's poop. Doesn't help that the horse also helps with carry weight issues immensely. Naturally, in the near future they will nerf the horse into oblivion, because we can't have nice things. The exploration aspect has been improved. and the world is divided into islands. I like the idea, but it could use improving. At the moment they are basically just pieces of land with a bit different colouring and events. Every island has its own resource, so there's that, I guess. Maybe in the future you could make the islands have modifiers affecting exploring or combat. Maybe not, who knows. Sea travel could also use something to make it better. The layout of each island is basically the same too.The narrating was superior in the previous title. I liked the fact that one fellow did most(?) if not all(?) of the work. It gave the game a real story telling vibe and some real charm. Him changing his voice an old witch or a snake was somewhat hilarious, but at the same time it was unique and gave a cozy feeling. The fact that he did it well helped.Graphics are fine, besides the camera, which is extremely problematic. The lack of zoom (apparently going to be implemented, yay!) and the camera angle make things not cool. The angle is horrendous causing things to overlap and sometimes making it difficult to see in which hexes things are located in.I'll still recommend this game for those who are interested and fans of the previous game.. not bad, compared to the first is far better.but I would prefer more personalization of the characters, more picts , would be great. I have logged many hours on Thea: The Awakening. I always played on fairly high difficulty, so I never finished that game. From what I can tell so far with almost 5 hours logged in Thea 2: The Shattering, this is quite similar to the first game, with a lot of additional features added, but still roughly the same feeling when playing. If you've never played either, I'd say this is well worth the few dollars more over Thea: The Awakening. The game is fundamentally a group RPG hack+intel+sneak+heal+overpower+several.other.fight.modes - and - slash (you see what I did there right - I replaced the word "hack" with a bunch of other things, because you're not just hacking - the battles come in many flavors and don't always involve killing). While Thea: The Awakening had 1 dimensional battles with cards all lined up on a string and events taking place between 2 fighters next to each other, Thea 2: The Shattering has 2 dimensional battles that are a little bit more mysterious exactly how they work. The most difficult part of the both games is not knowing exactly how difficult an enemy group is, until you show up on the battlefield. In Thea 2: The Shattering, it's even more difficult, as the enemy hand is hidden as you lay out your cards, and it's hard to know what tricks they'll have up their sleeve.Additionally you can build your whole city anywhere you like because you start out with a band of nomads that are literally running for their lives in this horror-filled wasteland. Do you risk getting wiped out just to try to make your city out of better materials for a long-term boost, or just build one as soon as you can? I don't know! I haven't gotten that far yet!So yeah - this review is written while I'm still a little green - but I have played enough to say this is by far one of my favorite all-time games and I am just a tiny bit sorry I waited as long as did before buying it. If you only have time for 2 games this year, this should be one of them.. Too long and too much unnecessary random. First: if you want to create lategame equipment, you will have to farm a lot. Much more, than worth it. And both resources and research points are very slow to gain, compared to the amounts they are needed in. Second: when growing up a child (one of the most important ivents of the game - gaining a producer/warrior/etc) your options are randomly based on stats of a kid, and then you are again randomly tested if a child passed a test. So, if you wish to have some special interesting characters you would have to save/load a lot of times.. Feels like there should be two reviews: one for those who are new to Thea and one for those who played the first.Thea 2 has you managing a small group of devout survivors in an early medieval somewhat post-apocalyptic world. The game is at its best with aesthetics, drawing inspiration from slavic mythology, which is a welcome change of pace. The only thing that compares, off the top of my head, would be The Witcher.Yet it is just as original in terms of gameplay, with an incredibly complex but not obscure and mostly fair card system. During combat, each of your character is a card, with strengths and weaknesses depending on their class and equipment. You'll spend most of your time exploring, working on a choice-based branching main quest to save the world, getting sidetracked with numerous quests and events, looking for rare ressources and crafting tailor-made equipment for your cherished characters with them. Now one thing you need to know before purchasing the game is that it's punishing. Much more than the first, and even at the lowest level of difficulty. Think X-com. When you ♥♥♥♥ up, your people WILL die, you WILL struggle to replace them. ♥♥♥♥ing up includes trying content that's too hard for your party too soon, having an unbalanced party and meeting your counter (lacking magic-users and being faced with a magic challenge, having a backline character with low-health and no shields against AoE, having a shield-reliant team vs true damage...) or simply not being efficient enough. All in all, an excellent game worth much more than its price with high replayability, but only for masochists and perfectionists, if you're looking for theme-park gaming with fast, easy, forgiving fun you're in the wrong place.. This game is fantastic, but I just can't put my finger exactly why I like it so much. As a first experience, it's an amazing journey. The atmosphere, the world, the storytelling, it's very immersive. The excellent soundtrack makes it even more so.I love this game. I highly recommend it for anyone who likes rpgs, or 4x games, or survival games. This game has very high replayability value, but even if you just play it a couple of times, it's still worth it.Another factor is how moddable it is. After steam workshop is implemented I imagine there'll be a lot of mods to spice up the games.I also have to mention how awesome the developers and the community are. I've been participating in their discord channel for a long time and the Developers are very talkative and great at receiving feedback. You notice how much love and effort they put into the game.Thea 2 may be on full release now, but it will still grow and grow for a long time to come. For its price, it's a must-have game, its uniqueness alone warrants a purchase.. If you like 1 you will love 2. Gets stuck waiting every now and then when I click end turn. Relatively bad performance rest of the time. This sort of stuff might be acceptable if it was a product under development, but this is a full release...Shameful.I'd recommend not buying it till it has been patched a decent amount.. I forgot howto sleep 11/10 TOK 2 update: Hi, bro! I read your reviews and made some changes to the game:- Earlier in the game there were restrictions on the number of turns. They remained, but the number of turns on each level increased by two. If you keep within the required amount, you will get additional achievements. If you have spent the required number of turns, then they will go to minus but not more than the amount that was given at the beginning of the level.- In the first level appeared tutorial.- Turns have been improved. Also in the game there were additional achievements for the perfect passing game. If you have already completed the game according to the old rules, you only need to start the game and you will get them. No need to go through the game again. Many thanks to all the people who left the reviews and wrote to me in the mail, you helped me a lot.TOK 2 in the store:https://store.steampowered.com/app/1047960/TOK_2/?beta=0.
